EL GATO "MANGO" ("MANGO" the CAT) -- a cronological study

Hello -- Here is a cronological sequence of the creation of this portrait done in acrylics on canvas.

"Mango" (an appropriate name if you ask me) is a much loved family member of an old pal of mine who requested this portrait to present to her husband for Christmas.  "He loves that cat more than anything," she claims, and has tried himself to paint Mango to no avail.  And so this is where I have stepped in and done my best to represent Mango's love of spending time in the garden.

And so naturally this one isn't for sale... !

To paint an animal portrait most artists rely on photographs.  Animals are difficult subjects to photograph when you want them to "pose".  Co-operation? -- what's that?  I personally think the best poses are when they're caught off guard doing something they love (eat, sleep, hunt, watch birds, etc.).  In this digital age of photography, snap away! -- you can always delete the ones you don't like.

Anyone else who wants their dog or cat immortalized by me please contact me here.

TENTATIVE FRIENDS

Hello again -- I've got a soft spot for most animals and love to see the different species come together.  I was sent a photo of this by a friend and just had to re-create it on canvas.  Of course it's hard to say whether this lovely lab dipping it's paws into the pond wants to make friends or if he wants to chow down this curious and brave koi.  Either way it's a wonderful study with rich colors achieved by using the fat-over-lean with oils technique.
This piece measures 100 cm long x 60 cms wide.  Anyone interested in purchasing please contact me here.   Comments welcome.

CEIBA SENTINELS

This region of the world is home to the mighty ceiba trees with their elaborate root systems that crawl over earth and rocks, dipping slim baby-root fingers into the water wherever possible.  These two with their upper leafy branches curling and entwining as though holding hands stand guard, perched upon river boulders that form a gateway into a new section of the river into which the golden-haired rider will soon pass.  The jungle here is dense with lush greenery, the water reflecting it's verdant surroundings, the entire scenario inviting, lulling the soul into a peaceful state.

This piece is oil on wrap-around canvas measuring 60 cm wide x 70 cm long.  The sides wrap around 4 cms deep.  Anyone interesting in purchasing please contact me here.

FELINE WONDER

Hello to all -- Here's my latest creation, an ocelot gazing at whatever has caught it's attention.  This is a large piece, very eye-catching, done in multiple layers utilizing the "fat over lean" principle in oils.  Results are vivid and impactful.

I have a soft-spot for cats of all types and in terms of painting they never fail to fascintate me with their challenging coats of spots and stripes and varied hues.  This one with it's attentive demeanor, bluish light casting subtle shadows beneath it's chin and expressive sun lit eyes was a test of my patience when it came to detailing, yet well worth the final result.

Anyone interested in purchasing this piece (90 cms high x 120 cms wide) please contact me here.

ATTITUDE

Clearly this little girl is a little put out by something!  Is it having to carry around her little brother?  Or maybe she didn't like having her picture taken.  Whatever the cause I felt compelled to paint her rather surly demeanor in oils.  This indigenous pair live in the state of Chiapas where it gets cold due to higher elevations, thus the hat and scarf.

This painting measures 45 x 35 cms and can be acquired by getting in touch with me here.
