CENOTE


Hello -- this is one of those paintings that you keep working on when you should really put your brush down and STOP! The challenge here was to stay loose and not get too, too detailed, as I was tempted to do. I mostly wanted to portray the depth of the cavern and the feeling of awe one experiences when standing inside a grand cenote.

The Yucatan peninsula is riddled with cenotes, or underground water wells, many of which were sacred to the ancient Maya. This particular one is different than most in that it's water supply comes from above as well as below.
